Dr. Marder completed her residency training in Neurology at the Neurological Institute and fellowship training in Behavioral Neurology with Dr. Richard Mayeux and Neuroepidemiology training with Dr. W. Allan Hauser at Columbia. She joined the faculty as an assistant professor of Neurology in 1989 and is currently the Sally Kerlin Professor of Neurology. She has served as the Chief of the Division of Aging and Dementia since 1991. Her research has focused on the epidemiology and treatment of cognitive, behavioral and motor impairments in a range of neurodegenerative diseases including Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s Disease, HIV dementia and Alzheimer’s disease and related disorders. Her recent work focuses on characterizing the earliest signs associated with genetic forms of PD, especially in individuals with early-onset PD In May 2006 she was elected to a 6 year term as Co-Chair of the executive committee of the Parkinson Study Group, a consortium of North American investigators at 120 sites who participate in collaborative Parkinson's Disease (PD) research. She established the Huntington's Disease Society of America Center of Excellence at Columbia in 1991. At Columbia, she serves as Associate Director of the Irving Institute for Clinical and Translational research where she directs the Clinical research resource for adult and pediatric inpatient and outpatient research.
