Dr. Chiriboga was born in Peru and educated in Argentina where she graduated with Honors from the Faculty of Medicine at the National University of Buenos Aires in 1982. Dr. Chiriboga completed training in pediatrics at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital in 1985. After completing her training in child neurology in 1988 at the Neurological Institute and Babies Hospital of Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, Dr. Chiriboga joined the Division of Pediatric Neurology at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. Subsequently, she completed a Neuroepidemiology fellowship at Sergievsky Center and received a Master in Public Health from the Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University.

Dr. Chiriboga is Associate Professor of Clinical Neurology and Pediatrics and acting Director and Program Director of Division of Pediatric Neurology at Columbia University, as well as member of the SMA Clinical Research Center of Columbia University. Dr. Chiriboga's clinical research experience has included NIH funded cohort studies of congenital infections and neurodevelopmental disorders, such as cerebral palsy and effects of perinatal exposures. Dr. Chiriboga’s clinical trials experience includes trials in periodontal exposure effects, metabolic disorders and SMA. She is currently funded by the DoD to assess the efficacy of 4-AP on ambulatory SMA patients. In concert with Dr. Karen Marder, Dr. Chiriboga is Co- PI of neuroNEXT at Columbia University.
