Dr. Coffey will serve as the Principal Investigator of the Data Coordinating Center (DCC) for the Network of Excellence in Neuroscience Clinical Trials (NEXT). As the PI, he will have overall responsibility for all activities of the DCC. He will participate in all design activities and provide statistical and clinical trial design support,.work with Ms. Ecklund and Dr. Johnson to supervise all DCC staff, will participate on the Steering and Executive Committees, and will present reports and analyses to the Data and Safety Monitoring Board. At the end of each protocol, he will work with the CCC investigators, protocol investigators, and NINDS with respect to the preparation of manuscripts.
Dr. Coffey joined the faculty at the University of Iowa in fall 2009 as a Professor in the Department of Biostatistics and became the Director of the Clinical Trials Statistical and Data Management Center (CTSDMC) in August 2010. He received his Ph.D. in biostatistics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1999 and has ten years of experience providing data management and statistical support to large randomized clinical trials. He currently serves as the PI of the Data Coordinating Center for the Collaboration Among Pharmacists and Physicians to Improve Outcomes Now (CAPTION) study and the Childhood and Adolescent Migraine Prevention (CHAMP) study. While previously employed at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, he served as the PI of the Statistical Center for the Secondary Prevention of Small Subcortical Strokes (SPS3) study. He is also a past member of the NINDS NSD-K study section, currently serves on a number of Data and Safety Monitoring Boards, and chairs the education committee of the Society for Clinical Trials.
